ABOUT THE PLANT

The Baobab is the largest succulent species in the world and can often have a trunk diameter of 20m or more. The tree can live for 3000 years. The fruit has been used to make a refreshing drink and is high in Vitamin C. The nuts are roasted and eaten and are highly nutritious.

The baobab seeds that render this precious oil come from ancient trees in the Tete Region of Mozambique. Even though deforestation in the area is rife, these great trees are protected by local communities because they provide a source of income and nutrition. The fruit pods are collected and the fruit pulp is used for beverages and nutrition, while the seeds are a by-product. The baobab oil pressing gives an additional value to these great trees and provides much needed income in these rural areas.
